🚨🚨First review of Natural !!!🚨🚨 "Rich with interviews, anecdotes, and citations ... a strong case for the wisdom of compromise and humility." Check out the review and please consider pre-ordering, which is hugely helpful.

Looking for one more panelist for my proposal (ctrl+f "Buddhists Count"). Papers so far are focused on counting texts and counting through text. But most of us are men working on Chinese Buddhist traditions, and I'd love to diversify. Thanks for RTing.

Tragic. Tamiflu might not have prevented this child’s death, although it does decrease the risk of severe outcomes. We will never know. We do, however, know that this kind of bogus health advice does kill kids.

  8. So let's understand why people feel this way. We must reach out with sympathy and compassion. We must identify common ground. And then we must work to explain how to love nature without worshiping it.

  9. BUT BUT BUT Blaming/shaming is the wrong approach. In important ways, faith in nature's goodness makes sense, and it's bound up with bigger questions: the value of ecosystems, alienation from nature, anxiety about climate change, fear of unregulated industry and technology.

Sad & infuriating. "On , urged a mom not to give her son Tamiflu. He later died" Legitimizing bunk. Pushing "natural" cures. Fearmongering. The spread of misinformation can have significant consequences.

  11. There are many reasons I wrote my next book. The most tragic: Faith in nature's goodness can cost innocent lives. This should not have happened. We need to inoculate society against these dangerous beliefs.

The FDA doesn't have a definition of what a "natural" product even is. Is natural really better? We speak to to find out more:

  14. nothing more annoying than people who act like being able to read philosophy/religious lit in the original language gives them unique access to wisdom "actually, if you're familiar with the original GREEK / CHINESE ... " 🙄

Hey, has anyone out there actually injured their thumb by punching with the thumb inside the fingers? The standard advice is to keep the thumb on the outside to avoid breaking it, but I can't seem to find any examples of this actually occuring.

Addressing environmental problems at one scale sometimes means causing them at another. Rampant boosterism of renewables without life cycle analysis will alienate environmental allies ?

Thoughtful piece: "Most dietary supplements don’t do anything" by : "'There couldn’t be a more empowering place than the supplement aisle.' The only problem, of course, is that 'none of it’s true.'" A comforting ritual?

Loneliness and aloneness are not the same. This helps explain why self-reported loneliness is not higher in 'individualistic' countries like Denmark or Switzerland, where a larger share of population live alone. More about this in our new article

  20. Carbon footprint is not synonymous with "Evil". Likewise, what you happen to enjoy is not synonymous with "Good." As I always say, there's no unity of the virtues. Your preferred diet/lifestyle? It's. Going. To. Have. Drawbacks. Deal with it.

  21. I have a kid, and I live in the first world. I use air conditioning. I drive a car. All of these have a carbon footprint. Data that shows this is not something to be denied. It does not demonstrate that my life is BAD or EVIL. It just helps inform my general worldview.
