Pediatricians see the toll of gun violence every day through suicide, homicide & unintentional shootings. As long as children continue to be injured & killed by guns, pediatricians will continue to speak out to keep them safe.

All policy is health policy, or rather it should be. It’s commonly thought that EPA standard for lead in water (15ppb) is based on health recs. It’s not. It’s based on corrosion standards. There is no safe level of lead in drinking water, despite the federal standard.

Allowing states to block grant Medicaid will make it a far less viable, flexible, & effective program at promoting & protecting human health. Which, sadly, may be the ultimate goal of yesterday's new policy. Puerto Rico's experience should be a warning.

I would go so far as to say that it is virtually always more work to not give an antibiotic. And worth it.

Store guns unloaded. Store them locked. Store ammunition in a separate location, also locked. These safety measures are each independent associated with lower risk of suicide and unintentional gun injury.

"Unlike many commercial insurance plans, Medicaid guarantees specific benefits designed especially for children. Simply put: Medicaid works. In fact, children in Medicaid are more likely to get check-ups, miss less school, graduate &enter the workforce than their uninsured peers.

It is not too late to get the flu vaccine! Around 80% of all flu cases occur in January, February, and March. Children 6 months of age and up should get the flu vaccine to reduce their risk.

Winter is HERE! 🥶 Here are some tips on preventing dry winter skin in babies and toddlers. 1. Use warm (not hot) bath water and keep bathtime short. 2. Use fragrance/dye-free non-soap cleansers. 3. Choose ointments & creams over lotions to moisturize and apply to damp skin.

Parents allow me to take care of their children. The humans they love more than anything in the world. The humans they love more than they love themselves. When I really let this sink in, it takes my breath away. This privilege will never cease to amaze me.
