I have an idea. Maybe we should add “What steps did you take to treat graduate students well” to faculty annual reviews. Let’s increase reflection and accountability among ourselves.

  12. A key skill I learnt during my Ph.D. is effective time management (courtesy: ). But, as I get closer to finishing & have wayy more on my plate, it’s hard to do everything without feeling constantly tired. What are time mgmt tricks that work for you?

Thanks to for continuously telling me I could do it! In his words - “it’s like pulling the training wheels off a bike. You might fall, but you learn to be independent and learn from each fall”.

I strongly recommend grad students with severe imposter syndrome to try pulling off a submission by yourself. The paper may not get in, but IMHO that’s super secondary. You grow to be *much* more confident about your abilities.

    (2) Mathematically models how effective a hardware accelerator really is, when deployed (disclosure: HW accelerators don’t usually live up to their performance claims due to several overheads that show up at scale).
