Checked on several screens, different sizes, it really happens: If I stare with (either) one eye, I gradually get a diagonal grid about five dots apart, that gets more intense until the whole image disappears into uniform dark with tiny white "snow" like on an old analog TV.

Once the image has gone dark, the black, snowy cloud can slide off of the image space and cover real world objects. Easier to do at certain distances or spatial frequencies, and especially with a small phone size image.
