Insert an image that is used to mask the hidden image. Here are some materials. http://www.psy.ritsumei.ac.jp/~akitaoka/kosaku4e.html …pic.twitter.com/MRmTzAx9pq
Right-click the masking image. Select "Text wrap" (?) (文字列の折り返し). Select "in front" (?) (前面).pic.twitter.com/Js78uT6mXb
Then, the masking image is placed on the hidden image. The latter is invisible because the former is not transparent. Here we can change the parameter of transparency.pic.twitter.com/8aRYOAgqJQ
Select "Properties of an image" (?) (図の形式). Select "Transparency" (?) (透明度). Select "Option" (?) (図の透明度のオプション).pic.twitter.com/Tdbf62Ym6C
The default value of transparency is 0%. Change this parameter. If you change to 50%, both image are equally visible.pic.twitter.com/7GaLwt1mUt
When the transparency (of the masking image) is 20%, the hidden image is still visible. The value should be lowered further to obtain an image of the extinction illusion.pic.twitter.com/II92jaIc2D
Fascinating. I've done this in Photoshop. It didn't occur to me it could be done in word!
One of undergraduate students of our psychology college developed this method and reported it to me a few years ago. Excel or PowerPoint are also available.
