One of my students reported that he can see binocularly this 10cm-apart random-dot stereogram with uncross-fusing method. The interval between his pupils was less than 7 cm. This finding is inconsistent with the idea that divergence should be up to parallel in line of sight.pic.twitter.com/4YpDVHTxTt

Which method do you use when you see stereograms without any aid?

I’ve never been able to do any ‘magic eye’ things. I’ve heard that you’re supposed to focus past the image plane but even though I’ve been doing that I’ve never seen anything. It makes me sad. If you have tips they’re welcome.

I can uncross my eyes such that the 3 squares become 5 - with the middle one "floating" above the other 4. Is this the same as your student?

I hope he does when the image is small.

I can see it! I've never seen one that shows two images like this. I see one square that goes in, and one square that pops out.

As another datapoint, once I can uncross and focus to see the squares, I can bring the phone closer up to 8-9cm while maintaining the effect. I could probably bring it a bit closer if I try harder.

How many squares are you supposed to see when you get the effect right. I feel like I might be getting it... I’m definitely looking beyond the image and just now I got it so I could see four so I guess the right two in my left eye and the left two in my right eye were overlapping
