The image appears to rotate counterclockwise.pic.twitter.com/i2XKgAZbK4
I call this motion illusion "optimized Fraser-Wilcox illusion, Type I". I would like to know how you perceive.pic.twitter.com/2y7y4idSYJ
How does each image appear to rotate? cw: it appears to rotate clockwise ccw: it appears to rotate counterclockwise
OK, it is even weirder than before: Viewing individually: Viewing straight on: L: CCW ; R: CW Viewing in peripheral vision: L: CW ; R: CCW As expected, when viewing together: Looking directly at left: Both CCW Looking directly at right: Both CW
Thank you for your detailed report. Then, there are two different illusions. One is the optimized Fraser-Wilcox illusion observed in peripheral vision and the other is unknown (for me) illusion seen in central vision. Here is a color version. Is the illusion the same?pic.twitter.com/p3R6M02Nb9
You are welcome! First, I want to say that effect in central vision is very small compared to effect in peripheral vision, for black and white ones. For color ones: Effect in central is same as in peripheral (L=CW, R=CCW), but again, far less intense, almost negligible.
