companies running private hospitals have no financial incentive to invest in adequate post-operative care since, if a patient does suffer life-threatening complications, the patient can be transferred to the local NHS hospital at no additional cost to the private hospital.

The 10,000 people who work for Maximus at ACA call centers to sign us all up for health care can't afford health care themselves. How dystopian are things now?

Here’s the thing: insurers are just the intermediaries for OON costs. The $ for OON bills doesn’t actually come out of their pockets. It’s paid for by plan participants through premiums and other cost sharing. This is a provider vs patient issue not provider vs insurer issue.

In the federal budget system, the policy is made by two separate, yet equally important, committee staff: the tax staffers, who raise the money; and the health and retirement staffers, who spend it. These are their stories.

This is definitely my favorite headline about our work. My favorite writing is still when Rolling Stone called me “a dickishly ubiquitous young right-wing kingmaker with clear designs on becoming the next generation’s Koch brothers.” I don’t think these writers compared notes.
