I've been having a lot of fun coming up with life stories for accounts suspended by Twitter. Buckle in for a wild ride.
Meet 披荆斩棘 (@saydullos1d), from Cottonwood Colorado, a Denver suburb. She joined Twitter in 2013 and slowly built a following of over 21,000.
She is outdoorsy (I mean, which Coloradan isn't?). Deer hunting, fishing, you name it. (These are her real tweets with real time tags and metadata. Her account is suspended, so I "revived" her tweets using a fake tweet generator.)pic.twitter.com/Cc5cHfrh2x
But no one EVER interacted with her. No comments, no likes, no nothing. Is everyone on here a bot?! She got tired of this godforsaken site and gave up Twitter. She made a comeback in 2018, with a newfound energy for engaging people on this platform, totaling over 100 tweets in her first month back. Oh, did I mention she learned Chinese? She was eager to put her new language skills in use and tweeted exclusively in Chinese afterwards.
While she was away, she also developed an unhealthy obsession with butterflies. Yes, the insect. Not even her closest friends knew why. 32 of her 39 tweets in those weeks were about butterflies.pic.twitter.com/od6CZr5fya
Her butterfly obsession ended as inexplicably as it began. Such is life. She would never tweet about butterflies again. Her attention turned to Chinese tabloid news. She would take content from Weibo etc and repost them to Twitter, totaling over 1000 tweets in a year.pic.twitter.com/g5dpav0ZBI
To keep up with Chinese tabloids, she synced up with Beijing time. She starts tweeting around 8 AM Beijing time, with some lull in the afternoon, and calls it a day when Beijing goes to sleep. She usually doesn't care about politics, but it just breaks her heart to see protesters in Hong Kong bring turmoil to the city. She tweeted, re-tweeted, and commented in other threads, condemning the violence of illegal protesters.pic.twitter.com/kaCvxflqnT
But now Twitter has suspended her account over her support for the Hong Kong police. So much for freedom of speech. Sigh. Maybe she'll go back to deer hunting and fishing...

Twitter doesn’t have data on how the number of followers changed over time. That would be interesting to look at.

Actually the egghead is the default avatar in the fake tweet generator I used to “revive” the tweets. The tweets, time tweeted, device used, # likes/RTs are all real though. Sorry for the confusion.
