    Has anyone tried just staring at a shelf of books in the hope that one of them begins flashing like an item you can use in a video game, so that you can read that particular book and be flooded with inspiration? If so, how did that work out?

    (I'm teaching Ann Cahill's book on objectification this week, and the preface summarises the book and locates in it her larger ongoing project. The online version the library has just skips it. I'm glad the students have free and easy access to the texts, but this is unfortunate)

    Always a bit rubbish when the online version of a book skips a preface/introduction and cuts straight to chapter 1, as if there couldn't possibly be anything valuable or crucial in the bits before that.

    I'm really not sure what this tweet is saying exactly, but aren't there doctors who focus on palliative care or other areas where you might expect to lose a high percent of patients?

    Rejection is exceedingly common in academia. The acceptance rate for top journals is about 10%. Can you imagine a lawyer who loses 90% of his cases or a doctor who loses 90% of her patients?
