CW: Glinner In this chat between Jane Clare Jones and GL, she says that asking her to think that trans women are women, and "punishing" her for not thinking that, is RAPE LOGIC, just in case you were under any illusion that she was "one of reasonable ones." Comparing an act of courtesy when speaking about trans women - while acknowledging the distress you cause by refusing - to the demands of a RAPIST, and then excusing yourself by saying that you're not deriving pleasure from the refusal is quite something.

Can you imagine? "I object to these two women getting married to each other, but those women should take solace in the fact that nobody - well, I wouldn't say none of my allies - but *I* am not deriving pleasure from denying them their request. Anyway, what about *my* distress?"

I'm actually very used to gender critical people speaking about trans women like this, with such hyperbolic language, but what beggars belief is that otherwise sensible people are arguing that trans people and allies should debate these people and come to compromise?!

What you're asking of trans people is to dehumanise themselves. Are you really saying that it's the duty of trans people to argue with Jane Clare Jones that it's not actually rape logic to think of her poorly if she causes a trans woman distress by not calling her she/her?

There are millions of trans women in the world. As far as I know, not one of them is hammering Jane Clare Jones's door down with a bat, and even if there were some, that isn't justification for saying, "Now I'm not going to use any trans woman's pronouns!"

I mean, because the Dublin Youth Defence offices were vandalised, should we not, by the same logic, support abortion rights? Can we not say, "I condemn vandalism & threats, but at the same time, that doesn't mean causing people who need an abortion distress is right, does it?"pic.twitter.com/ejgLlmV9sf

I think anyone who is pro-choice would take a dim view of a pro-life woman in the Youth Defence office - acknowledging that a lack of abortion rights caused huge distress to women - and countering that by saying "what about the distress they cause me in opposing their rights?"

And her, continuing, "It's not really "they," I mean to say, it's the people who advocate for their rights hammering down my door with bats which has me less inclined to stop advocating for causing them distress. And punishing me for opposing their rights is fucking rape logic."

Vandalism happens in both directions, and I doubt that JCJ or GL would accept that because Spanish trans-supportive orgs & memorials are being defaced with anti-trans slogans, that they are employing "rape logic" by arguing for a position that the vandals would agree with?pic.twitter.com/KJFYAwy3an

While GL & JCJ are, to me, a lost cause, I don't get why otherwise sensible people can't see the GC movement for what it is. Also, I'd love to know who in the gender critical movement Jane Clare Jones thinks is deriving pleasure from causing trans people distress, wouldn't you?
