    1. René Girard - Forum‏ @GirardForum May 7

I am tired of defending mimetic theory. Many girardians use it to make money or be proud of themselves, new ways of being cruel, unsensitive. They don't really care of poor people. From René Girard to mother Teresa, many conversion possibilities remain. I work gratis for sharks.

For some sharks at least, and that's even too much. I consider mimetic theory as a science but girardism as a snobbery : books, books, books, while poor people are suffering and environment is being rapidly destroyed. A new kind of subtile hypocrisy and vainglory, sometimes.

In my own family, an entrepreneur. He has always been interested in neurosciences, then in mimetic theory, but to sell stuff and to manipulate people, not to be a better person !!!

Many entrepreneurs and investors come to Mimetic Theory through Thiel. Are you anti-capitalist? Are entrepreneurs (capitalists) evil? Anti-technology? Girard himself talks of how entrepreneurs are often scapegoats of society, evil men who only care about the $$$

I'm not interested in capitalism but in its (many and actual) crisis. I think that economic crisis are mimetic crisis : financial ones, industrial ones, inequality growth. desire => rivalry => crisis => scapegoats becoming greed and ads => hyper concurrence => crisis => exclusion

Yes, hyper-consumption, negative externalities, etc. but nevertheless scapegoating capitalism for all perceived economic ills may lead to a situation where a breakdown in supply chains causes famines, horrifying accidents, etc. Will the cute be worse than the disease or not?

I think we are (and capitalism is) in a kind of Titanic : I don't dream to drown the boat but to make it change its way :-)))

By disseminating knowledge of the mimetic mechanism, we hope to transmit Girard's thought. But there are two risks: — being the scapegoat for those who refuse reality — giving sharks one more tool to devour others.

That is a good way of putting it. It is like a tool, a technology.

And just like technology, it is a tool that can serve good as well as evil.

Therefore, @GirardForum raises a fundamental question: is it "safe" to disseminate such a powerful tool to an audience of intellectuals, some of whom could use it for their own selfish purposes – just like @peterthiel ? What other ways would there be?

No other way. Knowledge should weaken mimetic rivalry and desire, scapegoat mechanism, drive away crisis. Mankind problem is time. Awareness is a slow process. Do we have enough time ?

But understanding Girard requires knowledge and time: two treasures that are lost at the bottom of the ocean of the unculture and the instantaneous. Our efforts seem futile to me, too.

There are very good girardian works, encounters and so on. It's on Twitter that it can be frustrating to talk about him and mimetic theory quickly, in few words.

The best thinker I personally know in this purpose (changing direction of Titanic - and capitalism) is not a girardian but a french Jesuit and economist invested in Thirld World development and energetic transition : @GaelGiraud_AFD
