I am often asked by other Christians if people have been jerks to me about becoming a Christian and it’s like...naw, son, it’s the most popular religion in the United States, it’s been fine?

I am sure a bunch of my friends have a hilarious group chat where they gleefully stunt on me and honestly, good for them.

One of my closest friends was extremely honest with me that she felt like it was a big problem bc she didn’t think she could bear to talk about it with me and was worried that would create a massive gulf between us, and I SO appreciated her candor.

It’s been fine, as it turns out, but if you actually prize and pursue authencity in your relationships, you need people to say “man, this Jesus thing is not great for me and you” if that’s true.

You’re gonna have people who are recovering from straight up spiritual abuse and people who just think it’s dumb and people who just think YOU are and if you can’t have those conversations (or respect their wish NOT to have them) then the problem isn’t your friends.

Christians can engage in real shitassery and there’s no point in No True Scotsmanning them, those shitasses are real Christians too and you need to engage with the reputation damage and the bad theology.

The difference between Christianity and No true Scotsman is that Jesus was the only true Scotsman, but I agree with your overall point.
