If this is the case: why do a large majority of religious people put a heavy weight on actually believing the beliefs, rather than just acting them out? Few Christians or Muslims (but not all) would think much of someone who attends church but actually believes none of it.https://twitter.com/MimeticValue/status/1045197777783992321 …

Tbh what does “going to church” have to do with anything. “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13 RSV

Alright then, someone that acts as thought they believe, when they don’t actually believe.

How does anything I said imply that? That they don’t believe?

Believing != going to church. But going to church probably good thing. Church is just were two or three are gathered together in Christs name essentially.

I think you're misunderstanding. If religion isn't actually about the metaphysical claims (the beliefs), it's about the rituals, as Mimetic claimed above... then why do religious people mostly think it's very important to actually believe, rather than just act it out?

Oh okay yeah I think what he is saying is that metaphysical beliefs are basically rationalizations of behaviors, that behaviors came first. This doesn’t mean people don’t believe or that belief isn’t important, I think it’s sortof a feedback loop based off of imitation of model.

Imitation of Christ is based off of belief not reason or some objective proof really, takes belief, action determines to some extent whether or not or how fully you are ritually imitating Christ which I don’t think is disconnected with actual understanding of His behavior.
