Loved the parts of @BarackObama speech where he talked about coming together as a country, but why then blatantly lie to the American people about a basic economic fact that the gender pay gap DOES NOT EXIST. PERIOD.

Mmmhhh... This gender pay gap still exists in France despite years of feminine activism. Why not in the USA ?

Link to paper please. Most research reveals that when accounting for time off for child-rearing disparities disappear.

Ok, I don't know the situation in the USA but in France it's a known fact that, mainly in higher jobs, women get less salary increase for example. At equivalent qualification and job, they are less payed than men. In France at least, it's not only a matter of child-rearing.

How can you compare CEOs of two different companies? At higher levels the competition pool thins considerably and becomes far less significant... the VP of finance cannot be compared to the same position at another company, let alone the VP of HR.

I didn't compare. In France it's common knowledge so I didn't thought a lot about this.

I’m not sure if I trust “common knowledge” especially with it being such a political point of contention. Would rather refer to economic research.

It's political but in France everyone agrees. Debates are here about solutions not about the diagnosis. Many women also have bad jobs (e.g. cleaning ones, rooms or old or ill people), with bad time schedules (e.g. in restaurants) and unwanted par-time jobs.

You are taking the side of the crowd. You have no evidence or scientific research to support your diagnosis.

I never searched them because I NEVER had this debate and because sociological datas are EVERYWHERE in newspaper articles I read on this subject. But I will have to pay closer attention to the origin of these datas (sociological ones, not economical).

It’s really a question for economics. ALL of my professors said the pay gap was basically fake or explained by basic differences like child-reading and interests, citing papers and reproducing mathematics in classroom setting. Sociologists tend toward social constructivists
