Elvis was the first demigod of the age of mechanical reproduction via radio, TV, film, and satellite technology, precisely because he was the first scapegoat sacrifice to the mimetic contagion brought about by technological production of twins.

As Benjamin reveals, mechanical reproduction is a stressor to the original work of art. But he was unaware of Girard and
@nntaleb. Antifragile art benefits from stressors. Ritual meaning of art is not lost, but rather the origin of ritual is sacrifice of the scapegoat (popstar).1 reply 1 retweet 3 likesShow this thread -
Walter Benjamin is wrong, because he doesn't know that the origin of ritual is sacrifice, and this is also the origin of myth. Mechanical reproduction is the mimetic contagion that leads to ritual sacrifice, which results in antifragile mythology.

Synthesize
@johndavidebert@nntaleb#ReneGirard#WalterBenjamin: Mechanical reproduction is the modern mimetic contagion that stresses the artist=artwork, who gets sacrificed, which dissolves his ego identity, and is resurrected as the avatar of an antifragile ancient God.2 replies 3 retweets 18 likesShow this thread -

Yes! Not just photo, but also video, radio, etc. Even computer files that you can replicate and send. The medium is the message... or perhaps this is a medium that allows for a multiplicity of messages. Deletion of files/loss of password are sacrifices?

There is a sacrifice maybe in the photo taking itself, Sontag maybe talks of this, it “steals” the subjects soul in a way, takes away their look at that moment, preserves it. All the other parts of them are stripped away leaving nothing but pixels.
