Dunbar's number = 150. If you were in a hunter gatherer tribe and your IQ is 130+, then you'd probably only have 2 other people of comparable intelligence to talk to for your whole life. Perhaps the origin of civilization was a conspiratorial nerd meetup.

I do think Dunbar’s Number may be an average and the variability high. I, and my immediate family, all have 800+ people we persistently know by name, face and family relations and would not mind at all joining them uninvited at a bar.
