Thoughts about @tarangoNYT's piece in today's @nytimes about the effort to recall newly elected LA DA @GeorgeGascon and relatedly, the efforts to recall SF DA @chesaboudin. California voters, before you sign a recall petition understand this:

Your white privilege is blinding you to who the grassroots supporters of these recalls are - POC who are worried about vulnerable victims. You should be ashamed of calling POC worried about their grandparent’s/children’s safety that they’re morons- step out of your privilege.

You may not be white but are still part of the same old corrupt gritting policing Cooley and his ilk are paying for. You don’t speak for LA County.

I honestly agree we need reform - but we need actual justice - Police who commit crimes or lie should be held accountable and prosecuted - but at the same time, vulnerable POC victims MUST be protected. Gascón is incompetent - he must go. In your heart you know that’s true.

Corruption in police departments are institutionalized. The only way to fix this unjust sustem is to implement Gascon’s policy. You are a cop now or an ex-cop. You are blinded by your hatred of his policies that are the only answer. There gang in blue is still a gang

I’m 100% not a cop… But I know the system well…the warts, the injustices, and the ultimate hope for justice ingrained in our system. Betraying POC victims is not necessary to reform the system. When Gascón supporters told you that their rights had to disappear that was lie.

I want reform-and know we need rehabilitation and reform for those incarcerated. But I also know the pain that is disproportionately leveled at black and brown communities via violence is unacceptable. We need to do better.

Gascon is the answer and yet you rant against him daily. You don’t want reform. You want the prosecutor policing grift to continue.
