  Dunno if I'm "in this industry" yet and therefore qualified to answer but the fact that ever since I was a kid video games were my favourite thing and I remember having the distinct thought of "I want to make someone happy like this is making me happy" while playing Mario

  Disillusionment with my previous interests, a desire to learn something entirely new that I could still at least transfer a couple skills into, and a recent catch-up on a lot of indie games I'd missed over the last decade. I'll get back to you in 2 years when I've made something.
