This is an important judgment which means that trafficking survivors who are seeking asylum can be granted a decision on residence permit and the right to work without having to wait for the resolution of their asylum claim, as is the case now. Great work

  5. This , many charities are rightly asking the next Government to support trafficking + slavery victims. But, to achieve this, we need transparency and fair decision-making. Sign our petition, here⤵️📝

  7. 𝟱𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. That is how long we have been waiting to find out which modern slavery referrals are most likely to end in deportation. A nudge by will, hopefully, encourage some transparency.

The names of the 39 people who died in the back of a lorry in Essex a few weeks ago have been released. 39 people who were loved and will be missed by family and friends. They are more than a number. We remember them here: Pham Thi Tra My, aged 26 Nguyen Dinh Lurong, aged 20

  10. A belated hat tip to the , for this concise but hard-hitting summary of the detention and deportation of victims (and the tricks used to obscure evidence for so long). Sadly, we are still fighting for information on immigration outcomes of survivors

  11. We are deeply concerned by the news that victims of trafficking linked to the Essex lorry tragedy will not be guaranteed protection if they come forward with evidence. How can we ask survivors to act as witnesses when it puts them at risk of deportation?

  12. After Exploitation welcomes a new clause in the Modern Slavery (Victim Support) Bill, mandating Government to report the immigration and support outcomes of victims. We are pleased to join in asking for this bill to become law

We also need women to be able to report sexual assault, rape or domestic abuse without the fear of deportation. If you think this is wrong this type of abuser are not single offenders who will be next. We need this reported so fear must not be the reason to stop them.

"...the police stated that all four of the bunker’s inhabitants were believed to be victims and did not press charges. They are currently in an immigration detention centre." Why are three children victims of human trafficking still in detention?

  15. One of the strongest ways to put traffickers out of business is by introducing safe passage and fair visas. Once in the UK, too many survivors cannot confidently speak out about gang activity because they live in realistic fear of being deported or detained by the Home Office.

I just heard an Essex Police spokeswoman asking for undocumented migrants to come forward and saying they will not be criminally prosecuted. This is not helpful unless they can also guarantee that their details will not be passed to the Home Office for immigration enforcement.

Thanks to for inviting me to speak re Essex lorry deaths tragedy. No simple solutions but looking at avenues for safer routes into UK workforce & ensuring that being recognised as a victim of makes you eligible for support not deportation are 1st steps

New data shows huge rise in referrals into Govts ID system BUT - the no. of victims then being formally recognised at end of process hasnt increased at all - no. of convictions remains in the low 100s - they all disappear when they exit system (see me below)

We are deeply saddened to learn this tragic news. Our hearts go out to their friends & families. Safe & legal routes must be opened up for people to claim asylum in the UK. It's the only way to prevent this kind of terrible event happening again
