Love this Ms.Jenna.I have 2 questions: (1) Fire needs oxygen to burn right? But why did it stop burning when oxygen particles are getting attached to it? (2) The metal plate underneath..could it be contributing to the weight increase since it is getting exposed to the heat too?

The transfer of heat through the aluminum plate to the metal tray of the scale, it’s likely you are witnessing the scale’s discrepancy measure under variable temperature extremes. You’re just weakening the strength of the metal spring and getting a false reading.

I like lighting it with a high power laser. For science...pic.twitter.com/JG2rX1BXlq

I expected that but notice how the rate of change of mass initally wasnt particulally large even when taking into consideration the amount heated up. I guess I got some more thinking to do.

I think its that by looking at the fire you only see the outside. The rate of change of mass becomes large around 7 seconds in and their it is at the bottom, I think that at 7s it starts the insides which is alot more of the content buring and therefore alot nore chabge in mass.
