I'm in a live-work situation with 5 men. Sometimes ppl say 'what's it like being the only girl?' or 'gotta bring that female energy!' I understand why they say it, but it makes me feel a bit weird. I don't feel meaningfully different from my coworkers cause of my gender.

Yup! I've been in all-male environments, 95% male environments, 50/50 contexts, and contexts where I'm the only male – and there are different vibes in all of them. There are also other factors that can influence the atmosphere more than this, ofc

You are human not a machine. There must be some kind of feelings.

I think this situation can also be applied to your race.. sometimes if I’m the only minority, I feel awkward af... it’s nice having some other minority in the group :)

It seems that some people just can't get over either stereotypes of behavior (guys are slobs, will try to sleep with anyone, etc) when people are just roommates. Like same gender roommates is the only possibility and anything else has some weird subtext.

When I was a male working with mostly males, I always felt noticeably different/like the odd one out. Maybe they just felt like that'd be a more distinct way to identify?
