There is something bizarre about “high-IQ” as an identity core like with Mensa. Like a trade union of capitalists or a commune of libertarians. Or that South Park joke about the anti-semitic sect of Judaism. Shouldn’t you be winning Nobels, rather than performing identity?

do you think people who win Nobels don't perform identity? i mean really i think high IQ societies are just for people who haven't figured out signaling yet

It’s not their primary uh, use of their high IQ brains though

Is Mensa the primary use of the brains in Mensa?

I’ve heard rumors to that effect.., that a particular type of high IQ person tends to join

I don't know, maybe? A good test would be to see if people in Mensa have like, interesting or groundbreaking jobs or blogs or something. But yeah - as soon as a group advertises itself as a cheap signal, people into cheap signals are the ones that will join.

I suspect frustration at being in social roles they feel underutilize their intelligence or insufficiently reward it with status might be a factor in joining “I’m so smart, I should be running this city, instead I’m just a lowly accountant” etc

That's probably testable, but idk how to get that data. I never really thought of that as the option, though. I've generally felt that insecurity doesn't go away with higher social status.
