As much as I like expressing myself when I see a woman dressed nice or looking good... Women only appreciate compliments or catcalls when they come from men they find attractive

Yes, but this is pretty tame in that the content is actually, genuinely complimentary; the fact that it's called out instead of delivered more considerately is what makes it problematic/catcalling.

My first guess'd be the female responders are more judging it by impact/severity whereas the guys are judging it by definition, ie. "unsolicited compliment" since they lack emotional immediacy of the topic.

My thought is that it's catcalling because it draws attention to the woman against her will. It might be a welcome comment, and it's not an impolite sentiment. But it puts the woman on the spot in a way that a private comment would not, and so must be considered a catcall.

I think there's tiers to it, which is why the votes are so split right now between yes/no. Personally I think it IS catcalling but that something like that isn't so bad but may still make some women feel uncomfortable, partly depending on the delivery.
