A lot of the comments here are mocking the girl, and I really dislike this. Much like drug problems, it seems like a mind virus that preys on the vulnerable, and the response to this should be rehabilitation, not punishment. You can't help someone you view as an enemy.

It's like an abusive relationship - they're in a belief/community that they're invested in - with their sense of self, their friends, their pride. Just like a friend leaving an abuser, you have to 'be there' for them - don't judge, and provide a safe space to escape to.

This is why mocking them makes it even more difficult for them to leave. They have to climb an even higher barrier of 'shame' in order to switch sides. It's easier to join a side that shrugs and says 'hey, we've all been there.'
