I met a proper SJW last night at a party. I told her our app will donate to the most effective charities to save the most lives possible, and she was like, "but how do you prevent this from creating a white savior complex?"
I thought better of you than stealing a name made up by Infowars and Breitbart as a way to attempt to belittle people who actually think compassion is important. Shame on you.
I think you are using a term built for that to put down someone with strong opinions you may disagree with. You used a term for that person rather than just saying "I met someone who....", no point in using it otherwise.
I think her style of thinking and her opinions are much closer to a fanatical religion or a disease and I think it's extremely harmful to society in ways that other opinions I disagree with, aren't. I feel comfortable saying SJW in this context.
you feel comfortable putting people in boxes? The term did not even exist until an asshole invented it as an insult for people with more compassion than him. When you use this term to describe ANYONE you are guilty of perpetuating the idea that only selfishness is logical.
SJW as a term has existed since at least the early 90s, probably earlier than that, long before Infowars and Breitbart.
I think of SJWs as people who have less compassion than others, or at least compassion for people who fit into the right boxes "deserving of compassion."
For G-d's sake, what powerful bores can be found in America. I'd love to know more about your app and far, far less about people who donate less than you do and whine for a word.
"Social Justice" is a term that's existed since Karl Marx. Adding the "warriors" part was in a way meant to describe the frail & pathetic nature of these indoctrinated sheep.
Not only that, but the SJWs themselves are the ones that coined the term. They loved and embraced it until it was used to mock them and then suddenly it was a horrible thing to say.
I always saw the common resurgence and modern usage of it currently as a direct result of internet terms like "keyboard warrior" being applied more to the growing political discord online, and being pulled into usage, embraced for marrying that and hypocritical political activist
frankly i always used SJW as a byword for "asshole/idiot who says and does asshole/idiot things under the pretext of being progressive" and i see little reason to change
