The gender imbalance in crypto (17:1 men:women or something?) is super interesting, mostly because there's not really any 'system' with crypto. Anybody can enter, from their own computers, on their own time, and crypto is so new, there weren't really stereotypes about it already.

Not saying this isn't valid, but is it really true that crypto doesn't inherit the stereotypes of fields that feed into it?

You could argue that women are socialized from an early age to avoid tech, and crypto falls under the 'tech' umbrella. This might be true. I guess the stronger point is that there's no systemic power issues preventing women from entering crypto since it's hyper individualistic

I think I'm thinking more along the lines that even though crypto is hyper individualistic, you still get into it (and learn about it in depth) through your social networks, and that the social networks which have been closest to crypto are ones with similar gender imbalance

This might be true very early on, but crypto hasn't exactly been a secret for the past year or two. At least not 17:1 levels of secrecy.
