I have a continuous nagging suspicion that the "men as oppressors throughout history" narrative is only taking hold because our society has grown to value masculine traits more than feminine, and thus see history through a male-advantaged lens. Not sure though.

And to be clear, I'm not totally sure yet. I haven't tried putting this idea on and fighting other ideas in it yet so I'm not sure how battle-worthy it is.

Seeing as how the metoo movement rails against the unsafe nature of sexual conduct (if we are boiling things down) ........

I'd argue that the metoo movement is really about agency, not safety. Actually unsafe consent violations are a minority of what the metoo rallies against. A lot of the stuff would be 100% fine if you were "just chill with it," which makes me think it's really about agency.

Also there's still a pretty big discrepancy in safety, men are way more likely to die violently or be homeless and uncared for

Men still make up the majority in military combat personnel, law enforcement and other dangerous work. Women remain less likely to risk their safety.

It seems to me that agency for women is not what the current wave of feminists are promoting, maybe because agency involves personal responsibility. P.S. safety is not granted to men!
