This may be a case of overlapping cultures. It's sorta like racism - there are cities where racism is really bad, and cities where it isn't. So when people from nonracist cities hear "EVERYONE IS RACIST", they're like 'wtf you are insane and overreacting.'

my father was a christian apologist. One of the things that makes me sympathetic to feminism was that world. I used to cry myself to sleep at night asking God why he hadn't let me be born a boy.

I suspect the thing that 'allowed' feminism was post-scarcity. No more pressure threats meant people had looser gender roles. Are you saying Christianity was the primary reason for the industrial revolution?
