It is never okay to ask a personal question publicly and put a SW in a position to have to lie outright to protect her family or to be made uncomfortable within the conversation. Within personal, private conversations, that’s a whole different ballgame.

It's okay to ask personal questions publicly to me! I think I'm unusual though. I'm fine with instituting norms and it's good for people to know that usually SWs really dislike it, but I don't like people speaking for me on what people should or should not ask me.
