If a guy im potentially interested in sends a poor okc message and ruins it, i often wanna critique, like I wanna be helpful and let them know why they turned me off. This is not great in practice tho. They always try to fix it like 'are you into me now?'

Then they probably get upset and belligerent. People don't seem to take criticism well, constructive or otherwise. I wish you much luck finding someone is compatible with you and your amazing mind.

I either hedge a lot (Hey your message was super great, but there was one thing that made me say no) or ask permission to give them feedback

Probably the best way to handle it. It's nice to try and help, but I haven't had much luck providing feedback that is taken well. Too many seem to look for creative ways to take offense sometimes.
