Are American men threatened by @RealSexyCyborg 's #femininity or the fact that she's a size 00 #Asian girl elbowing her way thru the maker world? via @emilygmonster http://www.newsweek.com/naomi-wu-sexy-cyborg-misogyny-silicon-valley-704372 …
I kinda feel weird about this? She has self-admitted 'middle-school level DIY skills' and doesn't appear particularly skilled, but is getting a lot of attention because boobs. There's lots of more talented women who don't get famous cause they're not 'hot.'

Her fame seems like it's heavily due to her appearance, not her skills, and that doesn't seem very feminist to me.

I know what you mean, but she does recognize that fact, and IMO uses her platform (based somewhat on her appearance) to help young girls in China AND share the work of more experienced makers.

I think that's good! There's definitely pros and cons. I hope that young girls in China don't necessarily get the message that offsetting skills with appearance is the path to success. Although I guess it does work, technically, so idk.

There certainly are! And if you check my timeline I try to use that visibility to boost the signal of more qualified women in the community- and I have a standing offer for retweets for women in Tech who need eyeballs on something.

That's lovely to hear! I didn't check your timeline in any detail, so I didn't see, but I think that's a great thing to do.
