I'd find it appealing because I would love to have the emotional serenity and empathy necessary to do so.

Really unconditional love sounds awful. "I know he beats me every day, but I just love him unconditionally" is not a healthy concept.
I see it a bit differently. When I refer to love as being unconditional it's also because I see it as a state of being. However...
