Would you rather be raped, or falsely (and convincingly) accused of rape?

The responders seem doubtful, but I think they underestimate how utterly life-destroying a false but strong rape accusation can be.

I think (demonstrably proven) false accusations tend to be way rarer than we imagine though?

the number of false accusations that actually lead to any level of court proceedings is pretty low, yeah

It doesn't take a court proceeding to ruin someone's life, though - reputation is powerful.

I knew a venue manager who's accuser never went to police, but told bands that venue promotes rape culture. Had their last show last week.

It's infuriating because we have no cultural attitudes in place to seriously question/investigate whether an accusation is made with malice

Its such a tough issue because its historically not taken seriously and as soon as it is its exploited which undermines real victims of rape

To clarify: I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it absolutely does. I was merely making a point that the rates of false accs are low

As was my point. The personal experience isn't diminished by that: it is awful it happens; it is also rare.

Idk, in my personal life, meeting ppl who've had false accusations isn't rare. They just keep quiet about it

possible, but it's hard to get any sort of stats on that. From the stats that ARE available, false accusations are rare is all I'm sayin
