yes, a little. And my "spanking" of my son consisted of mostly threats, backed up by the very occasional "pop" on the legs

I was spanked exactly twice as a child, and it was very effective and appropriate. I needed a loud message and got it.

The problem is when hitting is the norm it loses all impact other than teaching that violence is the answer.
