I would have chosen the $1000 about a year ago, but I'm more financially stable at the moment so I'd do the coin flip

To be fair, the answer depends a lot on whether I can already make rent that month.

The expected coin win is 1/2*10,000=5,000 so it is always the best strategy. The real question would be if the coin gave $2,000
