I have female friends who I am not attracted to but in the vast majority of cases I am.

where I differ from the study is my automatic assumption is that it is NOT mutual.

It's very difficult for me to realize when it actually *is* mutual unless I get a very clear, not hinted, signal from her.

this is a problem because I'm very much "friends first". I don't approach strangers for dates. (On what basis? Pure looks?)
