humanity isn't even a little prepared for AI.
we're krill unable to comprehend the whale shaped shadow behind us. caterpillar about to get completely dissolved in a cocoon. the ocean about to evolve cyanobacteria. we're all about to become either dead or unrecognizable.

I see software that basically denoises datasets into what we humans pass as reasonably coherent patterns due to their familiarity to patterns we trained it on. So what manifestation of ai in your opinion is so godlike currently?

We're fundamentally the same thing as AI, except it takes 18 years to roll the dice on getting another one of us, and we have almost no self modification capacity

I had Tesla Autopilot in 2015. Musk kept saying full self driving would arrive any day. It never has.
IMHO, it’s sadly very unlikely that the recent impressive feats of AI will evolve into anything close to an AGI anytime soon. It’ll be cool and very useful tools, but not AGI.

The problem is, we will have created AGI before anyone even agrees on what that means.

We're not “about” to anything: language models are a dead-end where each extra order of magnitude of power and data thrown at it will yield an increasingly tiny improve in not inventing nonsensical answers.

Seeing this nonsensical response from a human is the most entertaining thing.
