some frame manipulation concepts I find useful: 1) The Painful Update Button - where learning true information is framed as painful, and enduring the pain of facing truth is framed as strength and virtue, such that you start ignoring the warning pain of actual damage.

2) Finger-Trap Beliefs - beliefs that self-reinforce when you start doubting; e.g. "Satan puts doubts into the minds of those he's tempting." - now when you start to doubt satan's existence, this is framed as *proof* of his existence - we told you it was gonna happen!

3) One-Way Pressure - rerouting inquires to be 'actually about you'; if you ask a question that comes close to something vulnerable, what was *your motivation* for asking that? Any pressure you apply gets boomeranged straight back onto you. Inquiring *makes you vulnerable*

It's amazing to me that there are even words for these things ... I think that there are probably even more things that people do that we are maybe only vaguely aware of like that. Is there some resource to read more about that? Even just a glossary could be useful.

Thank you very much for this amazingly insightful essay. I've experienced frame control as the victim of a highly manipulative female narcissist and although she checked nearly all the boxes for the "typical" manipulation strategies and narcisst-games (in a psychological sense)

Sometimes I feel like I'm doing this to other people, which causes me to always want to give them options to not be around me. Which of course I hope secretly makes them want to stay. I don't know how to find the balance in my life.
