If you average it out, then it would surprise me if they was zero difference. I think the differences inside demographics tend to be bigger than between them though, and I don't think statistical differences between demographics should change how we treat individuals.

Isn't it kind of an insane assumption that evolution has tailored different populations to different environments over time, affecting a thousand measurable and verifiable characteristics, but for some magical reason it left the brains out of the game?

This is true for most tasks and probably all intellectual tasks but there are certainly some athletic tasks that some races are genetically better at then others on average. Even if height was the only difference in race this would be true.
