Lost some respect for EA due to the response to the Bostrom thing. I guess I shouldn't be surprised? CEA has always leaned a bit too far towards PR at the expense of integrity. I guess I'd hoped to see some more bravery. Feel like the correct response would have had more nuance.

unironically this when ea was smaller, the autist ratio was significantly higher all the misdirected focus on "movement building" brought a bunch of soft dull normies in, did much more harm than good

The reason most people are EAs is they want to reduce the suffering of others and do something meaningful with their lives. I respect anyone who is in it for that, as long as we're talking about people who are alive now and in the near future.

Was it ostensibly science-wielding EAs behind most of that cancellation rhetoric? Damn. By the sound of it, I thought he got brigaded by a bunch of left-wing SJWs.

EA was always people looking for ways to avoid doing the work that would actually fix problems. It deserves no respect. Which is a shame because the people eho like EA would be really good at fixing problems.
