I think I was a much freer, braver thinker in my early 20s, really boldly just ran into philosophical musings. now im exposed to both much smarter people and also a mean internet, which has made it slightly less fun to think about things that i might then end up wanting to say.

Similarly, it’s kinda stifling to be better read and generally wiser due to the knowledge that whatever the depth of my insight - someone somewhere has already written a book on the topic

I think risk taking is for the young and preservation is for the old. Like the young-liberal old-conservative stereotypes. It's how societies are built, maintained, and evolve.
You may just be experiencing the transition.

Everyone in their 20s think they are smarter, balder and braver than everyone else, growing up we become less judgmental and more wiser to understand that we’re not so special and what once made us feel special and unique is more common and overrated than we thought.
