yeah but like... if i knew i was gonna inherit a house or a few hundred thousand from older relatives one day, my life would feel very different/much more relaxed/i'd be more able to focus on non-sexwork methods of making money

Paying for college isnt just tuition. There room&board, books, etc

The school Ronny and I went to cost about $100k for tuition + room&board for 4 years at in-state prices.
But also most families will prioritize owning a home over fully subsidizing their children's education.

Also: a house is an asset that you can sell if you need liquidity. Education is an investment that you can only hope will generate returns as a result of skills/certifications/connections. Much safer to spend your first $100k on a house.

My parents did not own a house and paid for like a third of my college. I bet Aella didn't need her parents to pay for all of college.

Afaik no one needs their parents to pay for all of their college in order to be able to go. Student loans are very easy to get.
Based on what I've heard about your family's finances (not that much) I'm guessing you were in that high income / bad credit intersection?

fwiw my parents made too much for me to qualify for financial aid (but didn't give me assistance due to a mix of mom's high medical bills and 'children ought to put themselves through college' ethos), and refused to cosign any student loans for me
I had a similar situation, made do with working a lot, student loans, going to a very cheap school and my then-partner and I getting married so I would qualify for pell grants. It wasnβt a great situation. Iβm torn between being envious of people who got to have aβ¦
