fwiw i kinda think both are true; i have some model that women view highly promiscuous men very suspiciously/warily/on guard, but that if the man makes high-commitment promises to her she is much more likely to respond vs a low-promiscuity man

but i think the negativity towards promiscuous men is somewhat justified, and women well calibrated; if a man sleeps with 100 women, it's extremely unlikely *you* are the one he will commit to, and it makes sense to be highly wary and not want him close to your community

In your example - "he has no shortage of girls ..." - seems like all in all promiscuity is desirable. If he had no shortage of girls to sleep with, but very few ready to commit, I would agree, but atm it seems as a solely good trait, and the negative aspect is only theoretical.
