fwiw i kinda think both are true; i have some model that women view highly promiscuous men very suspiciously/warily/on guard, but that if the man makes high-commitment promises to her she is much more likely to respond vs a low-promiscuity man

one of the guys i'm dating rn is extremely high promiscuity, and he also has no shortage of girls both aware of the promiscuity and really ready to commit to a relationship if he so much as hinted at it

but i think the negativity towards promiscuous men is somewhat justified, and women well calibrated; if a man sleeps with 100 women, it's extremely unlikely *you* are the one he will commit to, and it makes sense to be highly wary and not want him close to your community

My model would be, attractive men has more options and would correlate with being more promiscuous. Therefore, really what you find is, women prefer being with attractive men – not really a strange result?

Yeah this is precisely why I say it's not incoherent or surprising that women like "bad boys". Everyone prefers to have control over something they fear, or something they consider powerful and strong. Social status may play a part in it but I think it's mainly perceived power.
