fwiw i kinda think both are true; i have some model that women view highly promiscuous men very suspiciously/warily/on guard, but that if the man makes high-commitment promises to her she is much more likely to respond vs a low-promiscuity man

Suddenly social desirability bias does not exist, becomes 'cope'. If the revealed preferences were that women do not feel attracted to promiscuous men, why did you pick a study where such thing is self-reported, i.e., it's a stated preference and not a revealed preference? twitter.com/datepsych/stat…

as in, you want to tame a powerful wolf, but powerful wolves also might eat you; you might report strong wariness of wolves, but given the opportunity to tame you would leap at it. V common theme in romance novels; the sexy man can get all the girls but drops them for the heroine

one of the guys i'm dating rn is extremely high promiscuity, and he also has no shortage of girls both aware of the promiscuity and really ready to commit to a relationship if he so much as hinted at it

but i think the negativity towards promiscuous men is somewhat justified, and women well calibrated; if a man sleeps with 100 women, it's extremely unlikely *you* are the one he will commit to, and it makes sense to be highly wary and not want him close to your community

When dealing with promiscuous men, women need to balance the data from the fact that he's promiscuous with the data from the fact that lots of women wanted to date him. It's all Bayes. If no one wants to date a man, why would you?
