Has any decent essayist, in all Earth's history, ever said that they first learned their Art by way of being forced by average teachers to write essays due Monday?
i was homeschooled and LOVED writing, i wrote over a million words as a teenager, i was, in hindsight, actually a very good writer. and when i finally had to get essays graded for short periods in my late education i got terrible grades. writing was my lowest score in the SAT
i remember my first essay a teacher graded, i poured my HEART AND SOUL into it, i was so excited to be able to share my #1 passionate skill, i wove words beautifully.
but alas, i did not follow the required essay structure (opening, etc.) i didnt know existed, and I got a D
i very gradually learned to stop trying or get excited about writing when i was being graded. i realized they didn't actually care how much i was exploding with creativity and passion, they just were looking for basic essay structure. it destroyed all my joy of writing for them.
fuck those guys, i learned my art reading three fantasy novels a week for five years straight and now i make more money off my writing than they ever did, they can suck my butthole
