I have a lot of trouble being romantically interested in people in general, and this feels a little confusing. I feel like there hadn't been a lot of quality discussion on "lack of romantic interest"; it's either "lol lower ur standards" or "aromantic queer discourse"

Ok that went in a different direction but fair enough... So why wouldn't that make you conclude that you're onto something? I mean based on that it seems like you're a pretty good judge of who would make a good match for yourself so why not just keep going a little further?

Do you feel unsatisfied with this perspective as an explanation for your described issue? It sounds like a direct explanation. If your standard is "I need to beat my previous standards", then you will by definition have increasing difficulty over time.
