ok i genuinely don't get eugenics stigma - isn't "don't let siblings marry" or "abort a fetus if tests positive for a horrible genetic disease" eugenics? which most ppl seem to support?
Am I misunderstanding what people mean by eugenics? Is there a diff word I should use?

I think people often see eugenics as synonymous with preventing certain groups from reproducing, which seems fairly clearly bad.

but we're okay with this with certain groups, like siblings or people with significant mental illness!

becomes problematic when people in power start interfering with other people's reproductive rights, based on what they think is best (which is not nessecarily what others - including those who are being interfered with - think is best).

Seems like a decoupling issue since eugenics as a popular and elite movement were used in very awful ways in early 20th century.

I think it’s the racial eugenics that become a sticking point, ie a perfectly normal and representative person from a certain background still falls short of some standard.
