the overwhelming preference for mechanical keyboards in hobbyist communities is so confusing to me! Chiclet keyboards seem so clearly superior, I don't understand. Feels like going to get ice cream and finding 99% of all ice cream in existence is blueberry flavored. why???

I recognize I'm being an elitist nerd about this but it's surprisingly annoying to switch back to a regular keyboard after using a mechanical keyboard for a while The quality difference in typing satisfaction is palpable

Not all mechanical keyboards are the same. Different switches have different force curves and activation points. The best* switches have a peak in the force curve right at the activation point so your finger knows when you've pressed the key. *subjectively.. ish

they feel better! chicklet and similar keyboards don't have much space for key movement so you have to be very precise with how much you press the key, or you will bottom out which tends to be unpleasant - like pushing your fingers into the table itself.
